The Games Ark

Learn locally. Test in practice. Share globally.

Research-Led Incubation

A practical research environment for testing how emerging talent and early-stage teams can develop into sustainable studios.

Programmes

Four ways to test and learn in practice.

Games Ark Ecosystem uses these programmes to explore different parts of talent and studio development.

ARKway™

Researching pathways for emerging developers

Testing and evaluating approaches to practical skills, learning and development for people starting out in games.

ARKship™

Research-led studio development and incubation

Testing how structure, production, shipping and business support can help early-stage teams develop into sustainable studios.

ARKlink™

Researching networks and collaboration

Exploring how developers, founders, students and industry people connect, form teams and create opportunities.

ARKquest™

Practical experiments and challenges

Using focused challenges and game jams to test approaches to collaboration, making and talent development.

The research environment

Test approaches in practice, not only in theory.

Incubation gives us a practical setting in which to test and evaluate approaches to talent development, team formation and business support while participants develop real projects.

We examine what works, what does not, for whom and under what conditions. Programmes are run by Games Ark Ecosystem and use The ARK Framework™ as their practical basis.

  1. Learn
  2. Collaborate
  3. Build
  4. Launch
  5. Sustain

What we explore

The conditions teams need across a studio, not just one role.

Participants can develop practical experience while the programme evaluates approaches around:

  • Game development
  • Teamwork
  • Production
  • Studio operations
  • Leadership
  • Business
  • Publishing
  • Marketing
  • Sustainable studio development

Being clear

What incubation does not promise.

We would rather be realistic than sell something we cannot deliver. Taking part does not guarantee employment, funding, a publishing deal, commercial success or that a studio will be created.

What it offers

  • A structured way to build with other people
  • Practical studio knowledge, not just game development
  • Peers, feedback and accountability
  • A clearer view of whether a studio is right for you
